Barnsley 2-0 Middlesbrough: Completion.

Where are those pre-season pundits now, those who once guessed at the certain doom of Barnsley. They’ve melted away into the shadows following the best start to a season since our promotion, and it is looking a lot like we won’t be playing catch up for once as well, what with our top 10 position. The latest scalp is Middlesbrough, leaving us with 7 points from 3 games, and two home wins.

It’s always a good sign when the club not only wants to keep the same XI but is able to. The defence had the question marks over McEveley and over the security of Foster/Shackell together, but I was very happy to see them starting again. The Reserves are Back..Should They Have Gone?

A year ago, shortly following the first few games, our now ex-manager Simon Davey cancelled the reserve team, citing the fact that there was a high cost and it brought very few benefits to the first team. Read more»

Bristol City 3-3 Barnsley: Entertainment at all Costs

Anybody want to complain about our attack now? Thought not. I was as happy as the next guy to criticise how ineffective we’ve been up front so far but, man, was that overturned yesterday. And yes, I know that Bristol’s defence gave us a big hand with that, but it was 3 goals, and it could have been a lot more.

Goran Lovre had recovered from his head injury, and so we played exactly the same team as last Saturday. This includes Kieran Trippier, and unsurprisingly this meant that Hassell was totally safe all game, covered by a winger who knows how to defend. Read more»
